Daughter of Country Crooner Plays Pop Star on Hit Show
It may be hard to believe, but the idea for one of the most successful shows on children’s television was almost shelved completely. Disney needed someone who would be likeable, believable, and talented enough to play a young pop star known as Hannah Montana. They had trouble finding the right actress to play the lead part and actually gave up at one point. While many unknown actresses auditioned, it was the daughter of country singer turned actor, Billy Ray Cyrus, who finally nabbed the role. Miley would end up working with her dad since he was cast as the widowed father of singing sensation Hannah Montana (known by her friends as Miley Stewart). The show is about Miley’s double life and features typical tween storylines such as the struggle to fit in, friendship, and puppy love.
Miley Cyrus was born near Nashville, Tennessee in 1992. Her first serious acting role was that of Kylie on her father’s family drama, Doc, that ran from 2001 to 2004. Hannah Montana debuted with great success in March of 2006, making Miley a star and creating a huge fanbase among preteen girls. Miley Cyrus--under the guise of Hannah Montana--is currently the opening act for the popular band that‘s taking the nation by storm, The Cheetah Girls. Miley has recently been on the cover of Girl’s Life and Teen magazines.
The Official Miley Cyrus website is phenomenal, resembling a real-life magazine with viewers turning "pages” as they learn more about Miley.
